Circle-to-square calculator
Turn a measured flat crochet circle into a symmetric square with four equal sectors, corner increases and a target for every transition round.
How this tool works
The calculator aligns the current edge into four sectors, estimates how many rounds are needed to reach the corners and distributes every increase equally across the four marked corners.
Example calculation
A 20 cm circle with 126 edge stitches becomes a 24 cm square at 2 stitches per cm by aligning to 128 stitches and working 7 transition rounds toward 48 stitches per side.
Frequently asked questions
Does this generate a complete stitch pattern?
It provides checked stitch totals and equal corner increases for every round. The exact corner sequence still depends on whether you use single, half-double, double crochet or a textured stitch.
Why can the calculator add alignment stitches first?
A symmetric square needs four equal sectors. Adding up to three setup stitches lets the four sides and corners begin with equal counts.
What if the piece cups or ripples?
Use the table as dimensional checkpoints. Cupping usually needs more growth; rippling needs less or shorter stitches. Adjust the next round against the blocked fabric.
