StitchTip calculator
Granny square blanket calculator
Compare both orientations of a blocked motif and plan the whole-piece grid, finished dimensions and joining workload.
How this tool works
The calculator tests the measured and 90-degree orientations, prioritizes the layout with fewer motifs and then the smaller finished-size overage.
Example calculation
An 8 × 12 cm motif for a 35 × 24 cm panel uses 9 motifs when rotated, compared with 10 as measured.
Frequently asked questions
Why can the recommendation rotate my motif?
Rectangular motifs can produce a more efficient grid when turned. The alternative remains visible so you can keep a directional design upright.
Are joining seams included?
Use blocked, joined motif dimensions when the seam changes size; the report lists joining segments separately.
