StitchTip calculator

Crochet stitch height calculator

Turn the measured height of several complete crochet rows into one-row height, standard row gauge and practical whole-row options for a target project length.

Plan project height from a measured swatch

Measurement unit

How this tool works

Measure several complete rows in a relaxed, blocked swatch made with the actual yarn, hook and stitch pattern. The calculator divides the measured height by the row count, projects that rate to the target height and shows the nearest executable whole-row finishes.

01

Example calculation

If eight rows measure 10 cm, each row is 1.25 cm high. A 53 cm target is 42.4 rows: 42 rows finish at 52.5 cm, while 43 rows finish at 53.75 cm.

Frequently asked questions

Why does this use a swatch instead of a standard stitch-height chart?

Row height changes with yarn, hook size, tension, stitch variation and blocking. A measured project swatch is more reliable than a generic average.

Should I include the foundation chain in the measurement?

No. Measure between clear row boundaries across several complete rows in the centre of the fabric, without the foundation chain or an incomplete edge row.

Which finishing option should I choose?

Use the shorter option when the piece must stay under a limit. Use the reach-or-exceed option when covering the full target matters more. Account separately for borders, ribbing or joining seams.
