StitchTip calculator
Yarn calculator
Scale the yarn used by a measured sample to estimate yarn length and skeins for a rectangular project.
How the yarn estimate works
The result uses an area ratio: project area divided by sample area, multiplied by the yarn used in that sample. A safety margin accounts for swatching and small variations.
Yarn estimate example
If a 10 × 10 cm sample uses 15 meters and the finished piece is 50 × 100 cm, the project area is 50 sample areas, for an estimate of 750 meters before margin.
Frequently asked questions
Which projects work with this calculator?
It works best for flat rectangular pieces with a consistent stitch pattern, such as scarves, wraps and simple panels.
Is the result exact?
No. Stitch density, shaping, edges and tension can change consumption, so the result is clearly presented as an estimate.
