How sweater yarn is estimated
The body uses finished circumference and length. Each sleeve uses the average of upper-arm and cuff circumference, then neckline and band allowance and the selected safety margin are added.
Sweater yarn example
A 50 cm sleeve tapering from 35 cm at the upper arm to 18 cm at the cuff uses an average circumference of 26.5 cm instead of being treated as a straight tube.
