Turn your measured stitch gauge into a practical starting stitch count for the width you want to make.

Calculate a stitch count

Optional. Leave blank for no repeat.

How the stitch calculation works

Stitches per unit are multiplied by the target width. If you enter a pattern repeat, the recommendation adjusts to the nearest compatible multiple.

Stitch count example

A sample has 20 stitches across 10 cm. For a 50 cm project, 20 ÷ 10 × 50 gives exactly 100 stitches.

Frequently asked questions

Should turning chains be included?

Include them only when your pattern counts them as stitches. Follow the counting convention used in your measured sample.

What is a pattern repeat?

It is the number of stitches in one repeated motif. A compatible starting count prevents a partial motif at the edge.
