How this tool works
The calculator keeps the selected start and end margins, divides the usable span between buttonhole centers, snaps every center to the nearest row and checks that no two openings collapse onto the same row.
Example calculation
A 50 cm band with six buttonholes and 5 cm margins places centers every 8 cm. At 20 rows per 10 cm they fall after rows 10, 26, 42, 58, 74 and 90.
Frequently asked questions
Why enter both button diameter and thickness?
Diameter alone can make an opening too tight for a deep button. Diameter plus thickness provides a practical starting length, which should still be tested in the real yarn.
Are the centimeter positions or row positions more important?
The centimeter positions are the ideal layout. The row offsets are the workable positions in knitted or crocheted fabric and include the small rounding adjustment.
Can I use this on a curved band?
Yes, if you measure along the intended line of button centers. Strongly shaped sections may need separate plans when the vertical gauge or spacing changes.
